Bruce Sterling's Hacker Crackdown is a decades-old look at the world of young (and old) whipper-snappers who would bark at the heels of telephone infrastructure, and later Internet infrastructure. It's a look at the world of security theater. It's a look at how the grownups (so-called) reacted to the network ground shifting under their feet, thanks to unauthorized exploration.
